Introducing Elective Breast MRI

Based on the medical literature and our own experience, RMG and RSP have introduced Elective Breast MRI for breast cancer detection. We anticipate that most insurance entities will not cover MRI as an elective exam without specific indications, so we are offering the exam for an affordable cash-pay price (see Discounted Fees). While the precise role of MRI has not been completely defined, the examination poses virtually no biological risk, and a growing body of evidence indicates that it detects mammographically occult breast cancers. It would seem to be of greatest value as an elective exam in women under 50 years old, particularly those with hereditary risk factors, complementing the role of mammography.

Basically, any woman who can afford the exam and is interested in gaining additional diagnostic information about her breasts is a candidate, since the exam poses virtually not risk, and yields a lower percentage of falsely positive and falsely negative exams than mammography.
