John O. Johnson, M.D.
Born and raised in Florida, Dr. Johnson obtained both his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Florida, where he also was admitted into the Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha honor societies. He obtained his internship in internal medicine from Scripps Mercy Hospital where he was honored with the prestigious Robert J. Prentiss Original Research Award. Dr. Johnson received his diagnostic radiology residency training at University of California, San Diego (UCSD) where he also served as Chief Resident in Radiology.

Dr. Johnson is Board certified in diagnostic radiology and is very accomplished in all aspects of diagnostic radiology. He has received special training in cross-sectional body imaging (ultrasound, computed tomography, and MRI). In addition, he has expertise in numerous vascular and non-vascular interventional radiologic procedures.
Since joining Radiology Medical Group in 1990, Dr. Johnson has held several positions of leadership within the group. He currently sits on several committees within Scripps Health that deal with the selection and implementation of advanced medical imaging technology within the system. Dr. Johnson also serves as Director of Utilization Management within Radiology Medical Group. He is co-editor of Imaging Guidelines, which are proprietary Radiology Medical Group utilization guidelines for medical imaging that have been adopted by the international utilization management firm Milliman and Robertson in their ambulatory medicine guidelines.
